Youth in Government Kicks Off
The 2017-18 Youth in Government program kicked off on Tuesday, October 24 at 5 p.m. The program invites La Mirada High School students to meet their professional counterparts and learn about their roles in the City. Participants also attended the City Council meeting.
Sponsored by the City and La Mirada Ebell, the program gives students an opportunity to learn about local government, develop leadership skills, and make a difference in the community. They will serve as mock City Councilmembers and staff. They will prepare ideas for new City services and programs, which can make a real impact on the City. Students will also have opportunities to volunteer at City events.
Youth in Government students will give their final presentation at the February 27, 2018 City Council meeting.
Past projects developed by Youth in Government include an environmental plan for a “greener” La Mirada, the screening of classic films at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts and renovation of the La Mirada Library.
