City of La Mirada Celebrates Red Ribbon Week

Post Date:10/26/2017 11:38 AM

The La Mirada City Council proclaimed the week of October 23 through October 27 as Red Ribbon Week. La Mirada is committed to emphasizing the importance of living a drug-free lifestyle by making healthy choices.

During Red Ribbon Week, La Mirada’s elementary and middle schools hosted rallies to promote healthy, drug-free lifestyles.  These rallies inform students about the harmful effects of drugs and encourage them to make wise choices.  Speakers at the rallies included Safety Education Officer Mary Cipres, Deputy Probation Officer Darryl Harris, and Deputy District Attorney Cristine Albanese.  Deputy McGruff, the crime-fighting dog, led kids in songs and cheers to promote living a healthy lifestyle.

“Spreading awareness of drug abuse to children and educating them to make smart choices is the goal of the Red Ribbon Campaign,” says Safety Education Officer Mary Cipres.  “These rallies are a great way for the community to participate in drug prevention activities.”
