La Mirada Recognizes 90th Birthday Milestone
La Mirada resident Joan Landre was recognized for recently celebrating her 90th birthday by the La Mirada City Council as part of the City’s birthday recognition program.
Joan was born in Danville, Illinois on November 23, 1927, and she grew up on her family’s farm. In 1952, she married her husband, Charles, and moved to La Mirada in 1961.
Joan was a registered nurse and worked as the school nurse at Neff High School. She volunteered for the American Red Cross and at Rancho Elementary School where she served on the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Joan also served on the finance committee at United Methodist Church of La Mirada. After Hurricane Katrina, she joined her church family and traveled to a small town in Mississippi to help with the clean-up effort.
When she is not busy volunteering her time, Joan enjoys attending the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts and traveling with her friends.
She has three sons, Scott, Mark, and Grant, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
The City of La Mirada recognizes La Mirada residents on their milestone anniversaries and birthdays. The City’s Recognition program includes 80th, 90th, and 100th birthdays and 50th, 60th, and 70th wedding anniversaries.
“We encourage everyone who is eligible to sign up for this special recognition,” says Community Services Director Lori Thompson. “It is a simple and meaningful way we celebrate our residents and show them how much we care.”
