SALARY AND BENEFITS FOR HOURLY EMPLOYEES

SALARY PLAN: Appointments are normally made at the beginning step of the salary range. Hourly employees may be granted a step increase based on satisfactory work performance after a total of 1,040 hours of service. Ordinarily a step increase is considered to be a 50-cent per hour increment. Hourly employees are eligible for subsequent step increases after each additional 1,040 hours of service.

RETIREMENT PLAN: The City contributes towards a retirement plan for all hourly employees through the Principal Financial Group. The City contributes 2.5% of the employee’s salary as deferred compensation. Additionally, employees contribute 5.0% of salary towards this program on a pre-tax basis. Upon termination with the City, employees will receive 100% of both the City’s and employee’s contributions, plus any accrued interest.

HOLIDAYS: After completing 1,040 hours of continuous service to the City, hourly employees will receive six hours paid for each fixed holiday that the City observes. After completing 1,560 hours of service, hourly employees will receive eight hours paid for each holiday that the City observes. To receive holiday pay, employees must work eight hours during the two week pay period which encompasses the holiday. The City observes the following fixed holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Holiday (2 days), and Christmas Holiday (2 days).

MEDICAL INSURANCE: After completing 2,080 hours of continuous service to the City, hourly employees averaging 30 hours or more per week will be eligible to participate in the City’s medical insurance program. Under this program, the City pays for the employee only to enroll into a comprehensive medical insurance programs.

LIFE INSURANCE: For those hourly employees eligible for medical insurance benefits, a $10,000 life insurance policy will also be granted.

SELECTION PROCESS

SELECTION PROCEDURE: City application forms are required. Resumes are accepted along with the application form. Candidates are asked to fully describe any training, education, experience or skill relevant to this position. Applicants will be screened based on the qualifications for the job as described. Applications evaluated as matching the needs of the City will continue in the selection process. The process may be changed as deemed necessary by the City Personnel Office.

PHYSICAL EXAMINATION AND LIVE SCAN: Applicants will be required as a prerequisite to employment to successfully pass a physical exam, drug screen, and live scan, the cost of which will be paid by the City.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: All Hourly employees are employed "at will." Therefore, their services can be discontinued at anytime without cause.
