Representatives from the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) honored the City's business-friendly efforts at the Oct. 22 City Council meeting with a recognition plaque and certificate.
The City is updating the General Plan Housing Element. A workshop will be held on Monday, Oct. 28, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., for residents to learn about the Housing Element Update and provide input.

Construction of the new BNSF Railway bridge is complete. Workers are now preparing to move the railroad tracks onto the bridge by the end of October. Valley View Avenue road closure planned for Oct. 25-27.
La Mirada seniors will be able to access a wide variety of free health screenings and other services on Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Activity Center.

A City Charter Exploratory Committee will be formed to review becoming a charter city. Applications for those interested in serving on the committee will be accepted until Sept. 20 at 4:30 p.m.

The City has selected Jeff Boynton to serve as La Mirada's new City Manager. Boynton previously served as Deputy City Managerand is a 12-year City employee.

The City has received its first installments of Measure I funds, which took effect April 2013. The funds will be used to repair streets, storm drains and other infrastructure.
Walmart has announced it will open a Walmart Neighborhood Market at the Crossroads Shopping Center in early October.

Sales tax revenues received by the City of La Mirada grew 5.5 percent to $10,202,793 in Fiscal Year 2012-2013.
Curtis Jensen has been appointed captain of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Norwalk Station. The Norwalk Station serves the cities of La Mirada and Norwalk, as well as portions of unincorporated Whittier.
