Garage Sale Regulations

The City of La Mirada has adopted regulations for conducting garage sales.  These regulations are intended to minimize the effects of traffic, noise, and signage in residential areas while permitting residents to sell unwanted items.

If you are interested in conducting a garage sale in La Mirada, take into account the following regulations:

  •  Two garage sales may be held each calendar year with a City permit.
  • Permits may be obtained for a $16 fee, and a $50 refundable deposit at the La Mirada Community Sheriff’s Station, 13716 La Mirada Boulevard. The hours are currently Monday-Friday 8 a.m.– 7 p.m., and Sat-Sun 8 a.m.– 3 p.m., with the station being closed on holidays.
  • Garage sales may be conducted on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sale items are limited to the resident’s personal goods. The resale of merchandise is prohibited.
  • Signs may not be erected, posted on, or attached to any public property such as trees, utility poles, and medians. Signs may be posted on private property with the property owner’s permission.
  • A refundable deposit in the amount of $50 is required of all permit applicants to ensure the removal of signs. The deposit will be refunded if signs are not posted in violation of the La Mirada Municipal Code.
