Income Tax Assistance
E-filing now available!

Free federal and state income tax assistance is offered by trained AARP volunteers at the La Mirada Activity Center. No appointment is necessary; assistance is on a first come, first serve basis. Taxpayers should bring records of income and deductions including forms W-2, W2P, and 1099's, statements showing interest and dividends, a copy of last year's tax return, and any other pertinent records.

Cholesterol Screening

Offers information & assistance with Medicare benefits, health maintenance organizations (HMO's) and supplemental insurance. All Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program services are provided free of charge. HICAP's is a program of the Center for Health Care Rights. HICAP is funded, in part, by the Los Angeles City and County Area Agencies on Aging, through the Older Californians Act.

Free Dental Screenings

Dental problems and dental disease can be preventable with regular screening. Tooth decay only gets worse if it is not taken care of. By not getting small cavities or problems taken care of promptly, they can turn into large cavities and significant problems.

Birthday & Wedding Anniversary Recognition Programs
The City of La Mirada recognizes certain milestones such as 80th, 90th, and 100th birthdays and 50th, 60th, and 70th wedding anniversaries. Call the Activity Center at (562) 902-3160 to arrange for recognition.


Care Management
Care Management is available to frail elderly and functionally impaired adults to enable them to remain at home safely. Services include:

In-home assessment of needs
Development of care plans
Arrangement & coordination of services
Monitoring & follow-up

SeniorNet Computer Classes - Ages 50+
Learn to use computers and to access the internet through this hands-on class sponsored by Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital and taught by trained senior volunteer instructors. Fees range from $10.50 for a 4-class introduction course to $23 for an 8-class course.
In addition, SeniorNet requires an annual membership fee of $40.

Introduction to Navigating the Internet,
Word Processing, Graphics, Genealogy,
Digital Photography, and Money Management

Hearing Aid Repair
2nd Friday of every month
10:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Free hearing aid repair is provided by Advantage Hearing Aid Professionals. Free services include cleaning, battery door replacement, tubing changes, and other minor repairs. For more information call (562) 902-3160.

SENIOR EXERCISE
La Mirada Community Gymnasium

Sharon's and Lea's exercise classes are designed for chair exercise, which focus on stretching and a light aerobic exercise.  This class is designed for individuals more comfortable exercising from a seated position.
