The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responds to approximately 100 false burglary alarms every month in La Mirada. Responding to these false alarms is a tremendous expense of public safety resources. Costs associated with the Sheriff's Department's response to these false alarms have increased dramatically over the past few years.
In an effort to reduce the use of law enforcement resources and costs associated with responding to false alarms, alarm owners may be responsible for costs associated with the third and subsequent response to false alarms within the fiscal year. The fiscal year begins July 1 and ends June 30.
Pursuant to La Mirada Municipal Code Section 9.06.090, the fine for a Sheriff's Department response to a false alarm incident is $50 for the third response, $100 for the fourth response, and $200 for the fifth and subsequent responses. The first and second response to the location are free of charge.
If you have questions regarding false alarms, please contact the La Mirada Community Sheriff's Station at (562) 902-2960.
