FULL - TIME
SALARY: Appointments are normally made at the first step of the salary range. A five-step salary plan is provided with increases based on satisfactory work performance.

RETIREMENT PLAN: The City contributes toward a retirement plan through the California Public Employee’s Retirement System (CalPERS). The date of appointment and status of the applicant will determine the retirement formula. Full time employees do not participate in Social Security.

VACATION: Full time employees earn 80 hours of vacation per year for the first five years of service; 120 hours per year after five years of service; 128 hours in the 11th year; 136 hours in the 12th year; 144 hours in the 13th year; 152 hours in the 14th year; and 160 hours in the 15th year and thereafter. Employees leaving employment with the City are compensated for all accrued vacation hours to a maximum of 350 hours.

HOLIDAYS: Full time employees receive 96 hours of paid holidays per fiscal year. The City observes eight fixed holidays throughout the year. Any remaining hours (typically 28-32 hours) are considered floating holiday hours and may be taken at any time throughout the fiscal year. Holiday hours do not accrue.

SICK LEAVE: Full time employees earn 72 hours of sick leave per calendar year. Employees leaving employment with the City who have at least 5 years of service are compensated for 50% of their accrued sick leave to a maximum of 720 hours.

MEDICAL INSURANCE: The City provides medical coverage through CalPERS for all full time employees and their dependents at no cost to the employee. CalPERS offers medical programs which include HMO and PPO plans. An employee who is covered under another medical insurance program may choose to receive a cash rebate of up to $200 per month in lieu of insurance. Employee’s retiring from service with the City of La Mirada receive paid medical insurance into retirement at no cost to the employee.

DENTAL INSURANCE: The City provides dental coverage for all full time employees and their dependents at no cost to the employee.

VISION REBATE: The City provides a $450 per fiscal year vision rebate for full time employees on a fund availability basis.

FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT: The City provides full time employees with a flexible spending account program for eligible health and dependent care expenses.

LIFE INSURANCE: The City provides a term life insurance program based on twice the employee’s annual salary up to a maximum of $300,000 (management) and twice the employee’s annual salary up to $200,000 (non-management).

DISABILITY INSURANCE: Comprehensive short-term and long-term disability plans are provided to all full time employees at no cost to the employee.

ALTERNATE WORK SCHEDULE: In most City departments, employees have the opportunity to work a “9/80” alternate work schedule with every other Friday off.

JURY DUTY: The City will pay up to 40 hours of jury duty pay per calendar year while performing this service for full-time employees. Payment of salary to FLSA-exempt employees during jury duty shall be carried out in accordance with the FLSA. At the discretion of the City Manager, full-time employees who are required to serve extended jury service beyond 40 hours in any one calendar year may receive additional jury duty pay.

TUITION REIMBURSEMENT: Up to $1,700 per fiscal year is provided for tuition reimbursement for all full-time employees.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: The City participates in the ICMA Retirement Corporation 457 Plan and the Nationwide 457 plan, which are available to full-time employees. The City provides a matching deferred compensation contribution not to exceed $800 per full-time employee per calendar year. To be eligible, the employee must contribute an equal amount.

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP): EAP Services are available to all City employees at no cost. Services are contracted through Standard Insurance and provided by Horizon Behavioral Services. EAP services are available to employees and members of their household, and include up to three in-person counseling sessions per problem per year, 24 hour assistance by telephone, legal and financial consultation services, and assistance with child care, elder care and other life events. Use of the EAP is completely confidential.

DISCOUNTS: City employees are eligible for various program discounts.

F&A CREDIT UNION: City employees are eligible to join the F&A Federal Credit Union.

PART - TIME
SALARY: Appointments are normally made at the first step of the salary range. Hourly employees may be granted a step increase after a total of 1,040 hours worked. Hourly employees are eligible for subsequent step increases after each additional 1,040 hours worked.

RETIREMENT PLAN: The City contributes towards a deferred compensation retirement plan for all hourly employees through the Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS) Alternate Retirement System. The City contributes 2.5% of the employee’s salary and employees contribute 5.0% of salary on a pre-tax basis. Upon separation with the City, employees may elect to withdraw 100% of both the City and employee’s contributions, plus any accrued interest, leave the contribution with PARS if the balance is over $200, or roll-over the balance to another retirement account. Hourly employees do not participate in Social Security.

MEDICAL: The City shall provide a medical insurance program for hourly employees in designated positions with supervisory responsibility who have completed a 90-day waiting period and average no less than 25 work hours per week. Positions eligible for the City medical insurance program shall be designated by the City Manager. The coverage shall be for eligible hourly employees only, with the option at the employee’s expense to add dependent coverage.
