Protecting what enters into La Mirada’s storm drains is everyone’s job. The City of La Mirada encourages all residents to take part in preventing storm water pollution by recycling their used motor oil and oil filters. Certified Used Oil Collection locations make recycling used motor oil quick, easy, and free. Residents should contact their nearest Collection Center to verify hours of operation and quantities accepted. Used motor oil recyclers are also eligible for a $.16 per gallon rebate.
Oil should be carried in clean, non-breakable, non-metal containers. Oil filters should be inside a plastic bag to prevent leaks. Contaminated oil will not be accepted, including oil mixed with chemicals or other materials such as bleach, paint, solvents, water, or other automotive fluids. Keeping storm drains strictly for rain helps keep our beaches and coastal waters clean and safe for everyone to enjoy.
