Family Services

The City of La Mirada has long recognized the importance of the family
in this community. The Family Services Center is dedicated to improving
the quality of family life by providing information on various programs,
services and events. The Family Services Center is located in the lower level
of the La Mirada Resource Center.

Staff is available to assist you during the following hours:
Monday-Friday 2:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Information & Referral

The Family Services Center is a one-stop center for information on recreational, educational and social service resources provided by the City of La Mirada or offered by partner agencies in the community. Stop by and receive information on substance abuse services, counseling services, housing services,
financial services, and much more!

Employment Referral

Temporary, part-time and full-time permanent job listings are available for viewing to La Mirada residents ages 16 and above. No application or appointment is necessary for adults. Call (562) 902-3155 for more information.

Helping Hands

This program seeks to serve elderly, low-income, and disabled residents with landscape maintenance
and minor home repairs through the use of volunteers. Events are held on the last Saturday of each month except on holiday weekends. Volunteers meet at the Family Services Center at 8:30 a.m.

Volunteers In Action Program
Find a myriad of volunteer opportunities available in the City of La Mirada, ranging from coaching sports, assisting in the Computer Lab, working with the Tiny Tots Reading Program, Helping Hands program, volunteering as a theatre usher and more. To participate in the Volunteers in Action Program, you must be 11* years of age or older. Prior to starting, volunteers must complete a process, which includes an application, interview and orientation.
*11-15 year olds may only volunteer with an organized group with a parent or group supervisor

Homework Club

Monday to Friday 2:30 p.m. - 6 p.m. - Family Services Center
The Homework Club is a school year program where students can find a quite place to study, receive homework help, and do optional crafts and learning activities on Fridays. Each day complete your homework and earn points! The more points you earn, the bigger the prizes. The person with the most points at the end of the school year wins a grand prize.

Youth memberships must be purchased to gain access to computers in the lab for school or personal puposes. Youth memberships are $20/year. Parents are encouraged to discuss acceptable internet use with their child. Registration is required. Call (562) 902-3155 for more information.

Senior Mentoring Program 

Apply now for Fall, Winter, and spring sessions. The Senior Mentoring program is actively seeking new volunteers to mentor La Mirada youth and help them in their academic success. Volunteer mentors ages 50 or older, including retired teachers are available to tutor students registered in the Homework
Club and P.A.R.K. programs. Interested students must attend a La Mirada elementary school and complete a program application. Space is limited. To register, or if interested in becoming a Senior Mentor, call the Family Services Center at (562) 902-3155.
