Joe Mannina

Joe Mannina

Joe Mannina, a devout volunteer here at the La Mirada Activity Center was born in Brooklyn New York in 1944. Ironically, Joe and his family moved out to California shortly after the Brooklyn Dodgers franchise relocated to Los Angeles. Being brought up Italian, Joe was taught family and discipline were paramount. In 1955, the close-knit family purchased 3 model homes side by side in La Mirada where they enjoyed spending as much time as they could together. During his youth, Joe would travel to Vermont Street in Los Angeles where he would sell newspapers for $0.10 apiece. Joe grew up locally and was a part of the very first graduating class of La Mirada High School in 1962. Joe was an active student in school and decided to further his education at Cal State Fullerton where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing. Using the skills learned in college, Joe and his brother-in-law opened up their very own car wash business in Stanton, CA. Joe has now lived in La Mirada for nearly 50 years where he has watched the city grow from Olive Tree fields into a thriving business area. Joe enjoys giving back to his community and you can catch him here at the La Mirada Activity Center every Monday through Friday, volunteering for the Café on the Green Lunch Program. As a Café volunteer, Joe greets patrons, sets the tables, and is highly active in the day today operation of the program. When Joe is not here at the Activity Center, he enjoys spending time with his two daughters, Julie and Jena, and his three grandchildren. He also enjoys to garden and dance when he gets a chance.
