Community Services Master Plan

City Council Approves Community Services Master Plan

A Community Services Master Plan designed to serve as a roadmap for the Community Services Department has been approved by the La Mirada City Council.

La Mirada residents currently enjoy a modern parks system, a wide array of recreation programs and an extensive offering of social service programs. The comprehensive Master Plan is intended to preserve the community's enviable position in terms of parks, recreation and social service programs.

The Master Plan is a result of nearly two years of research, analysis and public input concerning parks and recreation programs and social services in the community. The document is designed to adjust to changes in the community, achieve results and guide the direction of the Community Services Department for the next five to ten years.

The Master Plan includes an Action Plan, which identifies priority goals and objectives. The document contains information on sources of revenue for facilities and programs, major trends affecting the Community Services field and population trends in La Mirada. Maps of parks and recreation facilities, comparison information on parks and recreation facility standards and key resources available at local schools and churches are included.

The Master Plan was developed in conjunction with the Community Services Needs Assessment process. The Needs Assessment process involved the use of a community survey mailed to all homes in La Mirada and a number of focus group interviews. The Master Plan is closely linked to the "Vision, Insight, Planning" project developed by the California Park and Recreation Society.
