Public Safety

Public Safety is responsible for the overall coordination and direction of programs and services designed to protect life and property while preserving the health, safety, and quality of life in the community.  Law enforcement services are provided under a contract arrangement with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.  A Special Assignment Team proactively addresses gang, juvenile and narcotics activities.  Community Resource Deputies assigned to La Mirada schools address juvenile and gang activities.  General Patrol,Traffic Enforcement, and Detectives assist in gathering information and developing action plans necessary for resolving on-going crimes and nuisances.  Fire protection is provided by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

La Mirada residents and businesses are also encouraged to work with Public Safety and get involved in its volunteer programs.  La Mirada's volunteer programs include:  Neighborhood Watch, Business Watch, HAMWatch, Community Awareness Emergency Response (CAER), and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
