Emergency Preparedness

The City of La Mirada takes pride in its emergency preparedness efforts and strives to educate our community in the importance of being prepared for all emergencies. The City's emergency preparedness program promotes disaster planning and coordination in advance of natural or man-made disasters.

The City’s Emergency Management program is founded on strong partnerships with local, state, and federal agencies. These partnerships are essential in ensuring the City is equipped with the resources to sufficiently respond to a large-scale disaster. It is also critical that residents, businesses, and community organizations practice effective emergency management.

Apart from the annual Communitywide Disaster Exercises, the City takes additional emergency preparedness measures. The City of La Mirada provides training opportunities for emergency

responders, updates emergency supplies, disseminates emergency preparedness information, and stays active with community emergency preparedness groups such as Community Awareness Emergency Response (CAER) and Area E Disaster Management. The City’s emergency management program also benefits from the community’s ongoing support and active participation.

Preparing for an emergency is the responsibility of every resident and business. Families and organizations should discuss their emergency plans and ensure that they have the proper personal and work-related supplies available in the event of any emergency. Effectively preparing for emergencies will help safeguard your family, home, or business. Together, we can work to ensure that our communities are well prepared to respond to any emergency our area may experience.

Since 1985, the City has conducted annual disaster response exercises to increase emergency preparedness in neighborhoods, schools, businesses, community organizations and public safety agencies.

Although disasters and other smaller emergencies can never be precisely foreseen, the City of La Mirada has an extensive history in emergency preparedness and works diligently alongside agencies, organizations, schools, our neighborhoods to ensure that our communities are well equipped to sustain minimal impact by any event.
