Every 15 Minutes

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration determined that an alcohol-related traffic fatality occurs every 15 minutes.  Based on these findings of the deadly consequences of drinking and driving, the City of La Mirada, in cooperation with the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Los Angeles County Fire Department,  conducts the “Every 15 Minutes” program at La Mirada High School biannually in the spring.

The “Every 15 Minutes” program challenges students to think about drinking, driving, personal safety, and the responsibility of making mature decisions about alcohol. The goal of the program is to increase awareness of the negative consequences of driving under the influence, and the effect it has on family and friends. The program brings together a broad coalition of local agencies including the California Highway Patrol, local hospitals, local businesses and the La Mirada Public Safety Team. For more information on the Every 15 Minutes Program, contact the La Mirada Community Sheriff’s Station at (562) 902-2960.
