La Mirada and Isehara began their sister city relationship on September 21, 1981. It's an exchange program of friendship and culture. Residents of the two cities have exchanged visits annually allowing growth of cultural exchange programs, educational development, and furthering new ideas and concepts to the benefit of both cities. Student and youth sports group exchange programs are a popular way for Isehara and La Mirada to learn about each other's culture.

Isehara is in the center of Kanagawa prefecture, 50 km from Tokyo and 45 km from Yokohama. The current population is 88,000 and is expected to reach over 100,000 in an area roughly 34 square miles. Thirty-five percent of the 34 miles is mountains and green forests. An abundance of orchards and cattle ranches provide food to various cities around Tokyo. The main industrial products are machinery, food, chemicals, and plastics components. In March of 1996, Isehara celebrated its 25th anniversary as an incorporated city.
