Fire protection and emergency medical services for the City of La Mirada are provided by the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The Department is the largest County operation in the nation with more than 2,500 uniformed and 400 civilian personnel. Moreover, County firefighter and command personnel service two million citizens in a 3,177 square mile area.
The personnel and first alarm equipment at Station 49, located at 13820 La Mirada Boulevard, are capable of handling most fires in the city. In the event of a large fire or major disaster, the resources of other nearby stations and ultimately the entire County Fire Department is available.
Station 49 averages 3,600 responses per year--almost 10 a day in the greater La Mirada area. A large percentage of these are rescue calls involving traffic accidents, injuries, and heart attacks. The Station also deploys a four-person tiller truck, a two-person paramedic rescue squad, and a three-person fire engine.
The Fire Department considers every resident and business to be an integral part of the City's fire safety team. In addition to fire prevention programs, the Department's objectives are fire fighting and paramedic services. Non-fire functions include disaster services and hazardous material response.
The City of La Mirada is working in cooperation with the City of La Habra and the Los Angeles County Fire Department to build a new Fire Station on the east side of La Mirada. Currently, the new Fire Station, 194, is in temporary trailers on Beach Blvd. until completion of the new facility at Beach and Hillsborough.
