Homeland Security Council Lowers Threat Level to Yellow- The Department of Homeland Security, in consultation with the Homeland Security Council, has made the decision to lower the threat advisory level to an elevated risk of terrorist attack, or "yellow level." (see more info)
Visit the La Mirada Community Sheriff's Station - The City of La Mirada permanently closed the La Mirada Public Safety Center on Jaunuary 8, 2003. The Public Safety Team will continue to provide extensive community involvement in crime prevention and dedication to public safety. All services offered by the Public Safety Center will continue to be provided at the La Mirada Community Sheriff's Station located behind City Hall.
Personal
responsibility is a key concept in order to ensure that La Mirada remains a
safe and desirable place to live, work, and play.
This responsibility rests with everyone in the community.
Individuals are held strictly accountable for their actions through cooperation
between the local courts, the District
Attorney, and the City Prosecutor.
Resources from throughout the community are coordinated to focus on specific
problems. Information sharing and
cooperation enables the Public Safety Team to identify particular needs and
provide necessary resources to resolve problems.
There
have been great efforts made in order to increase community involvement in crime
prevention programs. The Special
Assignment Deputies in the “BEAT Program” in correlation with the Public
Safety Officers serve as a liaison and resource for neighborhoods. These teams make regular contact with residents and businesses
along the “BEAT” to resolve concerns, conduct Neighborhood Watch and crime prevention
presentations, and participate in neighborhood activities.
La
Mirada’s reputation as a safe community and low crime rate are directly linked
with the strength of its community partnerships. The mutual trust and support existing between law
enforcement, residents, businesses, schools, community-based organizations, and
government agencies fosters a teamwork approach to resolving crime and
nuisances. Public support,
multi-agency partnerships, the “BEAT Program”, and high quality crime
prevention and suppression programs have secured La Mirada’s place as one of
the safest and best-maintained cities in Los Angeles County.|
LA
MIRADA COMMUNITY SHERIFF’S STATION
The new La Mirada Community Sheriff’s Station, a 6,000 square foot
building, is part of the seven million dollar expansion designed to increase the
services provided by the City’s Public Safety Team, enhance the
accessibility of law enforcement and safety services, and increase
accountability for community-bases an problem-solving policing.
With the exception of booking and custody facilities that will continue
to be coordinated through Norwalk Station, the La Mirada Community Sheriff’s
Station offers all of the services currently offered at Norwalk Station such
as access to police reports, detectives, and vehicle release
information. This facility is
intended to reduce the need for La Mirada residents and businesspersons to
travel to Norwalk Station in order to receive service.
Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to La Mirada, Probation
and Parole Officers, the Deputy
District Attorney, the City Prosecutor,
Public Safety Assistants,
Public Safety Officers,
Detectives, Patrol Sergeants and a Lieutenant are located at the facility.
