City of La Mirada COVID-19 Response Update
The City of La Mirada continues to monitor information relating to COVID-19, as well as guidance from federal, state, and county offices. On March 21, Governor Newsom updated the Public Health Order mandating that Californians remain at home through April 19 to help control the spread of the Coronavirus. On March 29, President Trump extended social distancing guidelines nationwide through April 30.
The updated Order allows businesses deemed to be essential by the state to continue to operate. Residents can leave their homes to access essential services and carry out essential functions. These include, but are not limited to, going out for groceries, medicine, food pick-up, gasoline, and outdoor exercise. Everyone must adhere to social distancing guidelines while doing so.
The City of La Mirada will continue to comply with the social distancing guidelines while ensuring important services are being provided for the community. City facilities remain closed to the public. Most City services are not affected by closures, including access to public safety and emergency responders.
Recreation classes, commission and advisory council meetings, community events, and performances at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts remain suspended. The City Council meeting scheduled on April 14 will continue to be held and will be facilitated by digital and/or teleconferencing media in order to practice social distancing requirements.
In addition to providing critical services, such as law enforcement and emergency response, the City will continue other key public services such as trash pick-up, street sweeping, and graffiti removal. In light of current circumstances, citations will not be issued for on-street parking on street sweeping days; however, residents are highly encouraged to park off the street, if possible.
Business licenses, project development reviews, and building permits will be processed digitally from the City’s website. Building inspections are also continuing uninterrupted. General requests for service from the City may be submitted through the My La Mirada app or by calling City Hall at (562) 943-0131.
Passive recreation at City parks is allowed while practicing social distancing. Playgrounds, park bathrooms, and some outdoor sport courts remain temporarily closed.
Lunch time meals offered through Southeast Area Social Services Funding Authority (SASSFA) Café on the Green are being delivered to clients as frozen meals. La Mirada’s Meals on Wheels volunteers will continue delivering meals to residents registered for the program.
La Mirada Transit services remains in operation. Click here for hours of operation.
Many La Mirada restaurants remain open by offering pick up or drive thru service. Residents are encouraged to continue supporting La Mirada restaurants and other open businesses to help preserve the local economy during these challenging times.
City officials will continue to respond to any directive from the Centers for Disease Control, State of California, the County Department of Public Health, and other federal and state offices to ensure the safety of the public. The City encourages residents to remain at home as much as possible and practice social distancing when going out for essential services. Working together to stay safe will help to control the spread of COVID-19.
