The Activity Center promotes healthful living by offering numerous health and wellness workshops and lectures. Bollywood Laughter Yoga
Thursday, January 15 from 10-11 a.m.
Do you like to dance and laugh? Then Bollywood Laughter Yoga Dance is for you! Bollywood Laughter Yoga Dance combines Bollywood style aerobic dancing, laughter exercises and breathing exercises, which will make you feel refreshed and energized. The dance moves are taken from the Bollywood movies. They are very simple and are done seated. Just bring yourself and a stable chair to sit in! The workshop is provided for free by the Independence at Home-a SCAN Community Service.

Late-Life Transitions 
Tuesday, January 20 from 10-11 a.m.
As we age, we all face key social, physical, and psychological changes. This presentation identifies late-life transitions which can affect the way we function and offer tips on maintaining a positive self-view, feeling good about our past, and making the most of life in the face of these changes. The workshop is provided for free by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.

Heart and Stroke Prevention
Tuesday, February 3 from 10-11 a.m.
Learn how to take charge of your heart health and lower your risk of stroke in this informative and engaging workshop. This session will cover the latest strategies for maintaining a healthy heart, recognizing early warning signs, and adopting lifestyle habits that promote long-term wellness. Participants will gain practical tools to manage blood pressure, improve nutrition, stay active, and reduce other risk factors. The workshop is provided for free by the Providence St. Jude Medical Center.

AARP Smart Driver Course
March 3-4 9 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Tu, Wed
The AARP Smart Driver Course is the nation’s first and most recognized driver safety course designed especially for drivers ages 50 and older. Developed by AARP Driver Safety, this comprehensive course offers research-based insights and practical strategies to help participants stay safe on today’s roads. Participants will learn the latest rules of the road, defensive driving techniques, how to manage age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time, and much more. Upon completion, participants may qualify for a multi-year auto insurance discount (check with your provider for details). The course fee is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members, payable by check or money order to the instructor on the first day of class. Space is limited. Registration is required. Aging and Vision Loss
Thursday, February 12 from 10-11 a.m.
Started wearing glasses recently? It happens with age. Your eyes and vision are important to your health. Learn about some common vision problems that come with age, what to look out for and what you can do to prevent vision loss. The workshop is provided for free by the Independence at Home-a SCAN Community Service.

Resiliency 
Tuesday, February 17 from 10-11 a.m.
We all have challenging events that occur in our lives, but how can we better cope with the stress of these life events? Resilience is an ability that can be developed in anyone. Learn tips on cultivating this valuable skill. The workshop is provided for free by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.

Dementia Friends: Building Dementia-Friendly Communities 
Tuesday, February 24 from 10-11 a.m.
Become a Dementia Friend by completing this one-hour session. Learn five key messages about dementia and develop action steps to help your community. Each participant with receive a Dementia Friend pin and become a member of this global movement developed by the Alzheimer’s Society in the United Kingdom. The workshop is provided for free by Alzheimer’s Los Angeles.

Good Sleep for Emotional Wellbeing for Older Adults
Tuesday, March 10 from 10-11 a.m.
Getting a good night’s sleep is key for emotional well-being. Learn about the importance of sleep and get helpful tips on healthy sleep habits. The workshop is provided for free by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.

Story Sharing: A Walk Down Memory Lane

Story Sharing offers participants the opportunity to contemplate some of life’s big questions and / or review their life experiences and adventures with a group. The workshop is provided for free by the Independence at Home-a SCAN Community Service.

Practice of Gratitude: Journaling Techniques
Thursday, April 26 from 10-11 a.m.
