Purpose
- The coordination and development of leisure time activities for senior citizens.
- The planning for and providing of satisfactory recreation facilities and programs for senior citizens.
- The evaluation and planning of human service delivery systems – defined as human service contract services and senior services.
- Assist with identifying possible service overlap and gaps.
Members of the Council
The City of La Mirada a Senior Council consisting of eleven City Council-appointed voting members. One member shall be from each of the identified senior housing communities (7) and four members shall be appointed at large by the City Council. The Senior Council is an advisory body to the City Council of the City of La Mirada and may send a member to attend and report at the Community Services Commission meeting to address senior citizen issues. The following are identified as senior housing communities: Breezewood Village, Lake Park La Mirada, La Mirada Landmark Adult Community, La Mirada Vistas, The Palms Retirement Residence, Somerset Glen, and Vista Alicante.
The presiding Chair of the Senior Council shall be the default member to attend the Community Services Commission meeting but may appoint alternate members to attend in his/her stead.
The City Council shall also appoint one alternate for each member representing one of the seven (7) designated senior housing communities.
In the event a new senior housing community is developed in La Mirada, it shall automatically have one representative and one alternate on the Senior Council thereby increasing the number of voting members by one.
The term of office of the City Council appointed members of the Senior Council shall be for a period of two (2) years. Each member shall have a term of office which shall expire on the second Tuesday in June and every two (2) years thereafter.
Meetings
The Senior Council shall meet the fourth Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. at the La Mirada Activity Center located at 13810 La Mirada Boulevard, La Mirada CA 90638.
Responsibilities
The Senior Council shall be responsible for making studies, reports, and recommendations to the City Council on matters relating to the older adult population in La Mirada.
In addition, all members are expected to abide by the City Council Advisory Body Procedural Manual.
